I'm interested to know what some of your effects chains are... The options are limitless both SW & HW but I'm mainly interested in HW options. I've seen some cats use all sorts of guitar effects on synths especially moog pedals on things like vintage Fender Rhodes etc. But I'm also interested to see what some of you may be using for warmth with VA synths (low pass filter, distortion, fuzz, wah).

Personally depends on the type of sound i'm trying to achieve. The only outboard effect I actually own is the ART Pro VLA 2 tube comp, and to be honest I doubt i'd ever run a synth through that for standard pad/instrument sounds... however for sub, and other bass I tend to record directly into Ableton, then experiment with a variety of settings on the compressor and record back into Ableton. Perhaps a little long-winded but it gives me the chance to really squash the sound, or open it out a little.

All my other effects chains are in-the-box, and are dependant on the synth i've used. To soften the sounds off a little bit of verb in the right places can help things sit in a mix better as well as some selective bits of EQ. But again it depends on the sound i'm trying to achieve.

The 5k synth is a VA synth so it's kind of harsh but there's loads of potential. I recently put the Decimeter (12bit) and Grimey Compressor (lightly fuzzed and trimmed highs) on effects bus 1 linked to effects bus 2 with a phaser and/or analog delay. I output the effects bus to 7/8 and ran 7/8 to my Art MPA Gold preamp fed rather hot into the tubes. Really warm and surprisingly fat results.I played a bit with the bit rate of the decimeter and the drive on Grimey compressor for added nastyness. so nice. Sure it's not mopho or tetra but its damn good.

Most common for me are

1. Plain ol' reverb on my mono synths

2. Phaser > Stereo Delay > Reverb

3. Phaser > Waldorf D-Pole > Ensemble effect > Tape Delay > Reverb

4. Side-chain Compressor > Reverb
