I’m currently trying to streamline the way I work in my studio and I find that relying on the MPC solely for sequencing is a smoother and quicker way to work. I’ve been doing all of my sequencing in Logic and then slaving the MPC 2000 or MPC 60 to the software sequencer.
1) What I want to now be able to do is build my entire sequence on the MPC using the MPC sequencer as the brain but control my midi parameters from Logic or Nuendo.
2) The other trick is that I will need to be able to bounce back and forth easily though. I am an R&B/Hip-Hop/Gospel producer and I use a lot of live instrumentation. I need to be able to lay down my bass guitar or lead guitar track and then jump on the MPC and work my drum and sample magic. I don’t want to have to start at the same sequencer (MPC or computer) every time because sometimes I start with a beat but at others it could be me just playing my acoustic guitar.
So if I work on a sequence in the MPC I want to leave the “PGM:” parameter off and control the pgm/bank and especially volume from my PC and shoot that data over to that corresponding MPC midi track. I don’t care if the computer holds the data or the mpc records the midi data. I’d probably prefer the PC.
I have been able to trigger the computer from the MPC and get it to play but there is a noticeable timing drift. I’ve researched and seen that others have had the same issue but I haven’t been able to resolve it.
I typically use MTC or Midi clock to sync the two together. I also use a 2” machine so smpte comes into play as well.
