Sequencing virtual instruments in Protools 8 with MPC2500

I have a little 'problem'

First let me tell you what my setup is:

I'm using Protools 8 M-Powered with an M-Audio Projectmix and an MPC2500.

Now here's the problem:

I want to sequence my virtual instruments with the MPC, so that i can record the midi-events in the MPC (using multiple instruments in 1 session).

When i record midi on (for instance) track 1 in my MPC and the midi channel for this track is channel 1 and in Protools i have an Xpand!, also on channel 1, it plays this correctly.

However, when i add a track in my MPC, for instance on channel 2 and i assign channel 2 in PT to (again, for instance) an instrument track containing Hybrid, it plays both the midi-data for channel 1 and 2 through the same virtual instrument. (the virtual instrument on the track that's selected at the moment).

Can anybody please explain how and where i should change my midi-setup?

Not new to the MPC / Protools Tho. Got my setup/sync working for a while now, just decided recently that i wanted to use more virtual instruments (love PT 8! )

I used to track my beats to PT and play the instruments afterwards, but i like it better when i can do it straight away and record al the midi in my MPC...

I dont have pro tools but i do have cubase and had the same question months ago. The way the sequencer is setup, cubase does not distinguish which channel you are sending from a midi output. (It doesnt say "oh he's only sending channel 1 on the input so thats what i'll send) It sends info to all the individual channels on the output. In cubase i had to tell the midi track to not send "omni" (to all output channels). I had to use a special option to filter out the midi channels i did not want sending out midi data. If you were sequencing with pro tools and selected an individual output channel this would work cuz there is no info it has to decipher in regards to recieving data. This is what i had to do:
Track 1 on the mpc is set to midi out A channel 1 to control Trilogy in cubase.
Trilogy's midi track is set to recieve data from mpc's track 1 (channel 1), and set to output into trilogy (channel 1)
I use a midi tool called Transformer in cubase to tell the midi track what channels i want filtered out. So i will tell it to filter output channels 2-16 for that track.
Same for the second midi track:
Midi track 2 could be Battery 3.
Battery is set to recieve mpc track 2 (channel 2 midi out) and output to battery channel 2. Once again go in2 cubases midi Transformer and filter channels 1 & 3-16. Magic!! See if protools has a similar function where you can achieve this. It sucks cuz ive used ableton in the past and it is as easy as two mouse clicks! Hope this info helps

Also, Xpand and Hybrid are not multitimbral. So you can only use 1 sound from xpand and Hybrid per instance. So you have to pick a sound, record a melody you like to an audio or aux track then make a new track with a new xpand instance and do the same thing. Just get Reason or something else multitimbral. You can use all 16 midi channels.
