Just now learning Ableton,, I know the MPC inside and out--

Is there anyway I can use some of the buttons on the MP to start the sequencer in Ableton? Or all I can use from the MPC is the actual pads themselves?

And I'm not talking about sequencing Ableton instruments with the MPC sequencer. So don't even say that,, I mostly wanna use Ableton for the sequencer (now that I understand how dope it is)

You want to look for MMC (Midi Machine Control) options which should be found with your midi preferences. That will allow you to use the MPC transport controls with Ableton. It's been awhile since I used Ableton, but most daws allow for MMC sync as a slave or master. You'll also have to configure the settings on the MPC side as well.

Yo thank u,, that sounds promising. I've never had luck with MMC, but I was using Logic and also using it for something else entirely. Will give it a shot and report back.

Anyone else using their MPC as an Ableton controller?

MMC or MTC ... basic MIDI sync still transmits start/stop messages.

If you can set up basic midi sync with MPC as master, you can hit play on it and ableton will start as well. record...I am not sure about.

You're right but he wants to keep Ableton as the master sequencer. With MMC he can still keep Ableton as the master and also slave it to the MPC MMC. And you're also right about no record MMC message on the MPC, which I think is kinda weak.
