I was pretty excited bout octatrak when i first heard about it, but the more I look into it. It seems like a glorified phrase sampler. Still cool, but the price ain't too cool.

^ You have a very good point, slicers are for wussies but it looks like the magic is in the interface and the sequencer. I want it bad, but I can't justify $1500...

looking at the elektron forums the octatrack OS still looks very unfinished. I reckon they'll hit a wall streaming samples off a CF card too.

Just in case anyone didn't know, Roger and Dave Smith decided to make their own machines instead of collaborating on one. They both had different ideas about what they wanted to produce.

they're actually collaborating on both the units. In other words, the sequencer in the tempest is designed by roger linn. Let's all come together and pray that some of Dave Smith's analog technology finds its way into the Linndrum II. At the very least, give us some analog filters... Please???

or even dsp-digital filters like on the other elektron products - which have some nice sounds in there. Monomachine processing MPC 1k can sound really great.

The octatrack seemed that it would have a few modes more like a demented portastudio than just a phrase sampler - which would make an awesome sidekick for an MPC. but with the OS still unfinished it's not really clear.

Now that you can actually download the manual I should have a read of it - like in all that free time I have.

As far as the Octatrack, I think doing edits like that are better suited for a computer. Reminds me of doing editing on a Roland vs1680 Maybe Elektron is very different?

I was close to buying a beta Op1, by the time I took a look at that Paypal button again, it was sold out. That was good for the pockets. Ill wait another year or two for that one.

I gotta stop the drool coming out my mouth for that Tempest. I might just be an early beta tester for this one.
