Hi everyone and thank you for reading this post..
I have a MPC 5000 conected via midi with two sound modules ( a Roland Fantom S synth and a Proteus 2000 sound module). The thing is that after recording a mid track editing its preassigned volume level level for that track and pressing play on my mpc so I can hear the results, volume changes are not ¨recorded¨. Level go up to its bdefault setting. This happens to both sound modules, so I guess problem lies on the master sequencer ( my mpc5000). I have changed the mpc midi settings with no positive result. It is crazy because i can´t edit the midi tracks volumes..a mess.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Paola

Any suggestions?

Taking a different approach, keeping them at full volume and using an analog mixer to adjust relative levels.

How are you mixing these two module right now that you need to use midi volume?

Maybe record the midi volume control as a track instead of using the default mpc midi volume control...or at least manually send the correct cc as first event of a sequence track.

Hey nogginj,
thanks for your answer. If I use an analog mixer for route each module, volume edit will affect the overall volume for all module´s channels. What I want to do is editing each midi track´s voume individually.

At this moment, I can´t mix each midi channel individually, I just can reduce main volume from each module. This sucks: I can´t mix edit volumes for each channel. I try to edit the volume with the TRK MIX Window from the mpc but levels return to the default level once I press stop and then play again.

I don´t underestand the second idea that you suggest. No matter if I edit the volume in the module itself WHILE recording, levels will go back to its default setting anyway.

Do you mean adjusting the level of the midi track in the TRK Mixer Window? When I reduce the volume for, say, channel 1A once I press play again volume is not affected even if I put the level all the way down to zero. It edits the volume WHILE PLAYING but once I press stop and then p'lay, volumes go back to heir previous levels.

Is it possible to adjust the volumes of the different voices on their respective modules? Would that accomplish what you're after or are you looking to automate volume changes in the sequencer?

In my opinion, I would forget the TRK MIXER screen on the mpc for editing external modules if it doesnt work (but hey, check your manual on recording those tr mixer volume changes....there is a way to do it and i bet it solves your problem).

What I meant by recording it as a sequence, is again, forget the track mixer. Go to the first step of your sequence. bring up the step editor. hit insert. insert a control change that matches the synth's cc# for volume (isn't is cc#7 generally? or is tha modulation...i don't know i don't f with midi volume or i edit directly on the synth).
This way, your Midi Volume information is saved as a standard event in the sequence.

Or like i said, look through your manual about recording what you do in the trk mix screen (it is possible on my mpc, a 2kxl).

Having said that, the way you are trying to do this via midi is really not the best idea. An analog mixer is the best way to do this, and of course you can adjust the individual modules independently. I now understand that you are talking about not only multiple modules, but multiple programs on the SAME multi-timbral module. So yea, you just need to dig a bit deeper, and either learn how to record the trk mix changes (i'm not guaranteeing this will work), or manually input the Volume CC message as the first step in your sequence.

Finally, adjusting the velocity as proposed earlier is a bad idea as you then cannot have any other parameters tied to velocity. Velocity DOES NOT equal volume.

Thanks for your answers. I finally chose the step edit option. It is more tiem consuming but It works. This drives ¨the level stettings of the connected modules. It´s not the best way but better than analog mixer since, as I said, picks hum to the recording. Thanks all for your answers. Paola

Glad it helped. I figured that doing it in step edit is the most sure-fire way to make sure it is working.

I still think you CAN do what you originally wanted, you just have to enable trk mix recording...and I don't remember how to do that, but it's in the manual.
