portable dj solution

sup guys?

im looking sth to carry round, decks are too big

mainly for mixing but im a scratch dj at heart so would be better if could get sth to scratch with

is it possible? can they replicate real vinyl? and how much would i be looking at?

so far ive seen the native instruments s4 (that uses traktor)
a few vestax ones (the typhoon being a budget option, a vcm (only for mixing) and a vci which seems like a better typhoon)

so far im thinking of the typhoon or vci as my money is limited. but if i cant do cuts i might just forget about it

im also a bit concerned about how they will hold up if i man handle them

I went to the Gadget Show Live yesterday and got to play on a few of these all-in-one solutions. The jury is out for me, especially given the fact you can't upgrade component parts like faders etc, but the interaction with the software is nice.

Unfortunately the jog wheels feel poor (even on the Pioneer £1000+ unit), so I don't think they are really cut out for scratch DJs.

the QFO keeps it real. High quality Vestax product. I'd use an MPC to control Traktor (i'm sure there would be a way to utilise the Traktor time coded vinyls as well)


aw sheeeeeet -just seen the price £800 new. i'da thought the price might have dropped in the past few years.

Been using the s4 with 1 tech 1200. Supreme setup for me, having a second deck would be nice but it's really only practical for juggling tricks.

End of the day, do whats right for you. I recommend this setup though, best economy, 4 deck mixing, and Vinyl control. If your only hip to 2 decks you might want to check out the ns7, I used to own one and wish I still did, Its a fun piece of kit.

Jogs just don't cut it.

the qfo and ns7 (v. pricey too) seem a little big
