Turntable hum.

sorry, I read it back an it does sound confusing, I meant put the mic on monitor (don't know why I added that part) so like you can monitor as well as record. So yeah, there was absolutely nothing plugged in apart from 1 turntable, even my digi mic was running from batteries.

I dont know how the Vestax are build but you can look for vibration from the power unit.
I had to "modify" my 1210 because the power unit starts to vibrate with the known AC frequency of 50Hz (oh of course, if your in the US its 60Hz). I just loosen the screws of the power unit and put some foam under it. Since my 1210 only stays in its place in the studio its ok. I cant take it with me because of the unscrewd PU. The 50Hz is quiter now but its not completely gone. I guess I have to live with it or buy a new PU or a new 1210 (cant afford it now )

Thanks for the tip, i might try it out on my 3rd turntable, I wouldn't really mess with the 2 of them that I sometimes take out with me just incase things screw up. An yeah 1210's are EXPENSIVE since they went out of production!!! I'm also after a pair but I'm such a geek that I wanna keep em boxed an pass em down through the generations... I still regret selling my 1210's but at the time I didn't have a choice so what can ya do.

An yeah, vestax are extremely poor quality turntables. very plastic and flimsy, no where near the quality of a technics buuuuuuuuut I just can't seem to perform on techs like I can on vestax and I also like knowing that the needle isn't EVER gonna skip on a vestax during a juggle routine or whatever. fuk it, I'll take one part tomorrow and see what I can work out. On a better note, literally while writing this my friend called saying that an old hippy came in to his pub and asked if they wanted 50-60 old records for free!! Picking em up tomorrow! yes.!

Nice call on the records!.... Have you checked out the RCA wires themselves? Sometimes they go bad and need changing. I swapped out both wires on my 1200's and it made a difference. One side was louder then the other and humm at times. Since they were used TT's ,from diff sources and there was definitely some repairs done on them and they used cheap RCA's. I bought one long Monster Cable (over kill haha) and cut it in half, that way i knew it was technically the same wire. replace and all was good.

keep ur monitors a good distance away from ur tt, too close and it will feedback
