By i need a mpc

I have an Mbox, 3rd generation, mini and I'm having issues and wanted to see if y'alls mbox were the same or if mine is defected. On Input 1, I am not able to receive a line input when using the 1/4th trs input. I am only able to hear a signal using trs input if I have "DI" selected. I am able to hear a mic/line signal only if using the XLR input. Now, Input 2 is different, I can hear a signal coming through the 1/4th input, whether Line or Di is selected..
I wanted to know if y'alls 3rd generation mbox are the same way or if mine is defected, and I am suppose to hear a signal using the 1/4th input on Input 1 when "mic/line" is selected? It just seems strange to me to have to use one 1/4th trs and a 1/4th to XLR cable to trackout my mpc. I hope somebody with an mbox could help me out because this is driving me crazy lol.
