Mac clutter on CF card

I'm very annoyed by all the "SPOTLI~x," "FSEVEN~x," folders my Mac creates on the CF cards I use with my MPC. Any way to get rid of these permanently? I got some Blueharvest program that's supposed to address the issue, but despite trying a variety of settings it doesn't seem to do jack.

format the CF card from within the MPC, not your computer...

I don't think that's relevant. You stick any external media (non-Mac formatted) into your Mac and it creates these stupid indexes/folders/files.

Totally Mac guy here and never seen any of those files on any external media, hardrives or MPC Cf cards.

Aren't those just files used for indexing, storing icon data and removing things from the Trash? I've seen Mac stuff like .trashes and what not whenever I connect a drive or card to a PC. I predominantly use a Mac and on the Mac they are invisible and seem to only show up on a Win, Linux or similar computer's filesystem where they're set to show hidden files. Kind of like those little irritating thumbs.db files that Windows creates.

You can try installing Superdocker or another application that allows you to see files the OS usually hides and delete them. Unfortunately they will likely come back as they are a part of how OSX (at least 10.5/10.6) work, if I'm not mistaken.

Here are the files he's talking about, MCL. This is from one of my drives. The tilde ~ character that you see, Stinktank, in the MPC is usually there because the file name contains too many characters. On your Mac OS or Windows these files will have longer names, likely.



I've never seen them on my MPC CF though.

Set your computer to not view hidden files...

Or if you're working in a mixed or mostly Mac environment just get used to them. They do no harm and are there to improve your user experience and not to cause you headaches.

If on the other hand you just happened to get the Mac 'taint' on a drive and you could care less then there is certainly no harm in deleting them.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am used to them, but ever since I noticed that the hidden trash folders were filled with stuff I thought was gone long ago, I've been kind of paranoid of what might be lurking in the depths of all those folders...

if you goto system preferences spotlight pane you can set folders or whole volumes to be not indexed by spotlight maybe that removes some of the hidden files. but even then the mac would write the trash file onto the card and maybe another hidden file telling spotlight not to index.

the trash folder would be emptied if you connect the card to a mac and empty the trash on the mac.
