I am either thinking about purchasing the LE or the classic, but I want to know can you actually put in some serious work with the built in sequencer/sampler with the LE, or the classic?
For those that have experience with them... which one would you recommend? I am planning to complete songs from scratch to end with the triton, and do the recording/mixing via another device.

The Triton sequencer/sampler is extremely capable of doing complete projects, it's not as easy to use as the MPC but once you get used to it you shouldn't have a problem. The sampler in the Triton is way better than the sampler in the MPC. I'd say go with the classic Triton over the Le, if you got another 300 bucks I'd say go with the Extreme, it's a monster. You might wanna check with Lampdog, he had a classic for 900, not a bad deal.

Yeah, I don't think the Extreme was received as well as Korg thought it was gonna be so the price has dropped, for 1899.00 it's a deal imo. The classics are still goin' for 1599.00 brand new but you can find those for around a grand on ebay.

...so there I was messing around in guitar center today, actually 1 hour ago and this girl started talking to me about R&B cause she saw me playing with the Triton Extreme (She makes R&B). I told her I had a Triton Classic, she didn't have much money she said and she was looking for a cheap but GOOD keyboard for under $1000 or so. She specifically said she would like the Extreme but didn't have the money. I told her I had a pristine Classic for sale and "my classic just happened to be in my truck right now, we can bring it in here, plug it up and you can test everything out right here and now" I told her "I was selling it for $900 but I would be willing to go down to $700 if she gave me the money right here and now". We went out to my truck, pulled out the keyborad all shiny and new looking (that's how I always kept it), took it inside, my boy who works there let me plug it up and she messed around with it. I went to the bathroom, came back and she dissappeared but my keyboard and everything was still there, she left it on. I was like maybe she had to go real quick-like so I packed up and was about to trade it to Guitar Center for the Extreme along with some loot. She came back right before I stepped into Pro Audio (she hunted me down) and said she had "went to her bank right down the street", handed me $700 right there. I was like WOW she serious with it. I added that money to what was in my pocket and needless to say I am now the proud owner of a Triton Extreme..

She went home happy and I went home happy. Oh and also, for Doveski with the wild avatars, she had a round, dark, mocha, colored onion (booty) with a blue thong. She was hella cute.. She would make a good avatar, ha.

I would go with the Classic cause it's MORE robust (meatier functions) than LE. LE stands for limited/light edition, understand that before you do it.
Both are good for the task of building beats and songs. Fully capable and good keyboards. Don't doubt it for a minute.

Hey lampdog, how you like the extreme so far? I think I'm just gonna go with the extreme. How's the sampling/sequencing option? Is it easy, and simple as the MPC?

By cooocooo1 Wed Sep 29, 2004 9:08 pm
I wouldn't say it's a simple as the MPC but it ain't much harder. The amount of things the sampler on the Extreme can do like sample through any of the fx or directly through the valve force tube(I originaly thought it was gonna be cheesy but it actually works pretty good, I recommend strapping it across the outputs when tracking), is what makes it less simple though so that's a good thing. This board is capable of just as much, if not more, than the Studio imo so I'm a lil' confused as to why the studio costs so much more but I guess it works out well for the consumer.

go for the triton extreme. Best deal out there in workstations.

Ive got the triton studio.

The MPC sequencer is definately better....but thats because everything on the mpc is built around it. The triton sequencers on all of them are all the same. Ive owned a triton le as well.....

You can do major work with the sequencer once you get use to it. I cant, because im stubborn and just want to use the mpc sequencer. When i owned just the triton, thats all i used and it worked great.

I guess the only reason i dont like the sequencer is because i like to step edit sometimes and on the triton you have to go through 3 menus to get to step edit. whereas on the mpc you can do it from the main screen.

But the triton does have loop, where you can loop each track at differant lenghts......this sometimes can be a pain in the ass though because on the mpc, i always loop....so if i **** up, i just have to do it again and practice.

With the triton if you dont make the song measure 4 bars, it will record past your loop points and you have to change them......if you record past your loop. Sometimes you dont pay attention and get frustrated! (this isnt that big of deal...but for me it **** up work flow and makes me love the mpc more)

If you are use to the mpc it might take sometime to adjust, but i garuntee youll understand it right away. Its easy.

The hardest part of the sequencer, is realizing the structure of the triton. What a program is, and a combi. Basically, when you go into sequencer mode, youll have 16 tracks. Each tracks are pretty much blank. You have to copy all the effects and parameters of each preset sound(program) into the track you want.

E.G. in program mode, you play a bass sound, edit it, or whatever. then you decide to sequence it with some drums. You go into seq mode......select track 1. Then go to menu, copy from program (then pick the # and name) it will ask to copy all the effects, etc. to track 1.

Thing people get confused by is that in seq mode, you can automatically go to the tab where you can select an instrument to assigne to track 1, 2, etc. But these presets are "dry" they dont have effects assigned to them, like they do in Program mode.....you have to manually copy the effects so they sound the same as they do in program mode

Program mode essentially is like parameter mode on the mpc. Its where you edit all your sounds and patches.

Combi mode basically is where you layer programs from program mode. You layer up to 8 tracks worth of sounds.

Sampling mode: Trick is to realize that first you sample, then you have to arrange the sounds into multisamples, then you have to convert that multisample into a "program" then you can use them in the sequencer.

peace

Thanks for the advise cyrus. I've decided to go with the triton extreme, and I just got it in the mail about an hour ago. I have to say that I didn't realize that the extreme is this heavy.

I have a few newby questions for you cyrus, or anyone that can answer the questions I'd really appreciate it.

1) Like you mentioned on above post the measure keeps going and going.. but is there anyway to make it loop just like the mpc like let's say at 4 bars(measure)??

2) I am used to mpc so in mpc terms.. how do I chain the sequences together to make it into a song? or do I have to compose in another way?

3) So you are saying that every sounds that I pick in sequence mode is all dry, and I have to apply my own effects? Maybe is that why I have realized that the drum kits in the extreme sound so dead and low?

4) I have realized that my extreme did not come with a CF card. Will any CF card work for the extreme?

By cooocooo1 Sat Oct 02, 2004 2:38 am
I sold my Extreme a while ago, I think I remember how to do 1. and 2. but I don't wanna give you the wrong instructions so I'll let one of the guys who still uses it answer those questions.

As far as the drums, they do sound real weak when in sequencer mode, you can insert a compressor or better yet the valve force tube, that'll get 'em knockin'. You can copy the programs as they are in program mode like cyrus mentioned earlier or you can just set up your own.

I'm pretty sure any standard CF card will work, it can be a lil' awkward gettin' it in there, if you don't line it up just right it'll seem like it won't fit.

yes....you just have to remember to set the song length to 4 measures, whereas the default is 64 measures...........

2) I am used to mpc so in mpc terms.. how do I chain the sequences together to make it into a song? or do I have to compose in another way?.

there is a song mode just like the mpc..........

3) So you are saying that every sounds that I pick in sequence mode is all dry, and I have to apply my own effects? Maybe is that why I have realized that the drum kits in the extreme sound so dead and low?.

yes, you have to apply the effects in seq mode.....but you can copy the preset effects from the same patch that are in program mode.....thus eliminating the problem. Its fun to copy effects from an entirely differant patch. I would still sample your drums.....or atleast your kicks, and snares. Something about the triton drums just dont do it for me, but i have heard them in some mainstream beats.....so they are useable you just have to tweak them and process them. I currently use my mpc and triton together so i have my drums on the mpc sampled....

4) I have realized that my extreme did not come with a CF card. Will any CF card work for the extreme?

not sure about this one sorry
