to keep or not to kep my mpc1000...ebay?

it's got a dead pad #8, and the 16 levels button don't work.. just lookin' on advice as to what I should be expectin to get from this... it's got the pad upgrade other than that everythin's stock. box, manual.. thinkin of buying a 500 after it's sold... thx 4 any advice.

fix the 1000 and steer clear of the 500.

gahh.. how did I know I wouldn't get away with this!

point me to the cheapest direction in fixing my two issues, and ill shut up and retract this post.

guessing im gonna have to pay 75$ for the new sensor sheet right..

just wondering how to fix my 16-leves button? cause it works, it presses down on the actual button but doesn't recognize it being pressed..

Deox the tact switch, try taking the pad sensor sheet out and cleaning it off before you buy another one

would Deox be the way to clean the sensor sheet as well? I opened it up the other day and it seemed clean to me.. should i disconnect it etc? thanks

Look for any open lands (traces) in the part of the sensor where the dead pad is and also where the connection is made to the sensor sheet, and where it bends. You may or may not find something, it could be just a bad connection.
DeOxit works as suggested above, but sparingly! Otherwise, what I've learned from owning an Evolver is to push on the tact switch about 30 times really fast to loosen up the switch, as Dave Smith suggests. It works for my MPC. I haven't had to change any of the tact switches, and this is an '04 MPC1000. I'm really sure you may have some luck without having to spend any money at all, aside from the Deoxit if still needed.

The 500 operates like any other MPC. The things it lacks is the soft function keys for quick menu diving and wave forms. Recommended for old school beat makers really.

my advice would be to buy a soldering iron, some solder, and some desoldering braid.
learn how to maintain your gear and you will keep that thing going beyond any circumstances you previously thought possible.
i compared it to a guitarist - if a string breaks, do you sell it on ebay and buy a new guitar?
hopefully not. you learn to maintain your equipment. it's part of owning it, and it's also an opportunity to A, improve the original hardware with higher quality components, and B, learn some valuable skills while doing it.

Thanks for the tips guys. I ordered some of that contact cleaner spray off eBay. I will post results/updates on how it went afterwards.
