Midi keyboard questions

Hi

I have an mpc 1000 and now I also want to have a midi keyboard.
What is importat to think about when you buy a midi keyboard?
The size is not that important but I think I would like to buy one that has legs.
Does all the cables you need usually come with the midikeyboard or do I need to buy anything more? (Im thinking om cable between the mpc and the keyboard).

I'm flexible with the price so if you have any suggestions, please post them here.

Anyway, let me just break it down for you and say all midi keyboards are the same.
Whether its 25 keys or 81 keys. In the end they all do the same thing.
Now if your a person who likes too have more knobs, more faders, extra little buttons then of course it better going with more pricey keyboard but if you get a keyboard with keys that will do the job. Cus all the knobs, and fader are really doing is controlling what you have inside the DAW. Which you can do also by the click of a mouse.

Midi keyboard comes with only a usb cable.
If it has midi in & out, then you have to go out and buy a midi cable for that.

I suggest going to google and simply typing midi keyboard
& look at the ones that intrest you

keep in mind that not all midi keyboards actually have midi in/out. a lot of them only have usb now so u can control your daw.

for example, the oxygen only have usb while the axiom has midi and usb.

i use to own an mpk which has midi and usb and i loved it. its a real nice controller with a lot of knobs and some buttons as well. the pads sucked but since ur only buying for keys that shouldnt bother u.

Do you want a keyboard with sounds built in? The reason I ask is because you may or may not have a sound source. It doesn't sound like you have a sound module, and it also doesn't sound like you use your computer as a sound module. If I'm wrong on either of those counts, then you want what's known as a MIDI controller. If you want to be able to adjust sounds on your sound source with your MIDI controller, get one with knobs. Like tyrone noted, make sure you get one with actual MIDI ports and not just USB (you will also need to buy MIDI cables and possibly a power supply). I'd also recommend one with at least 49 keys, just so you have the ability to play a bass note and a high note at the same time.

If you do want a keyboard with sounds, then you have a bunch of decisions to make. What's your ideal budget? What type of sounds do you want? Do you want to be able to edit the sounds? Each manufacturer's products have a 'family' sound, which family do you prefer? Would you prefer to have a separate box or three (each with different types of sounds in them) that you can control from a single keyboard? And so on.

Are you a player (or do you aspire to become one)? If you're a player, then you will notice a distinct difference from keyboard to keyboard. They are not all the same. If you're not a player and don't intend to become one, then yeah they're pretty much all the same.

I'm also looking to buy a midi keyboard. I like the keys on a real piano...... Not plastic feeling keys. What midi keyboard would you guys suggest that has nice weighted keys?

Gonna buy one soon so any help would be great.

I suggest going to your local Guitar Center or any Music store around your area and
checking out the controllers cus what might feel right for me might not feel right
for you, you dig?

But I will give you a suggestion.

The M-Audio Keystation 88es, semi weighted keys but it feels nice.

I was planning on hitting up guitar center this week. I'll check out that model.

i know quite a few people that use the Axiom 25, semi weighted keys and midi in AND out, for added options

i was thinking about buying the akai mpk 25, but the axiom 25 i think will do just fine. they both have really good reviews
