Stanton T.92 needs a preamp?

Hey quick question if anyone has a stanton T92 usb table, do you use a preamp?

Just stepped up from the entry level portable Numark joint...running through shitty behringer mixer to the 1000.

From what I hear the sound from the table has much more depth and space, and somewhat cleaner and crispier sound...problem is I'm getting about half the gain that I used to get from the portable. That thing had a freaking built in speaker in the deck that bled through closed ear headphones!

I usually record into the MPC with the gain knob on zero and the volume nob at 9 o'clock to leave a little headroom for the final mix. The waveforms are showing up very light and spacious now, and it's almost impossible to filter lows from the few records I've played with on it so far.

The T92 has a built in line amp though, I'm just wondering if I'm not the only one who thinks it's not enough??

have you switched the outputs from phono to line?

Yup, still not enough umph.

What cartridge are you using? MM, MC? If it's an MC cartridge, they have a lower output than MM cartridges...

As far as phono preamps go, i've been looking around and comparing different ones for about a year before i bought mine. There's a lot of different models with variyng prices out there, in the end i decided for this one:

It's a very good preamp for the price and i'd recommend it over any dj-mixer or built in phono stage of a hi-fi amp (unless it's a real expensive one). My old Revox B750MKII amp has a surprisingly good phono stage for example, but this thing still sounds miles better.

Do you have the record gain from the MPC turned all the way down? If so, turn it up

If it were me, I'd subtract that mixer from the sampling input chain. The easy, inexpensive way to do this is to switch the TT to line and plug it directly into the MPC record inputs. OR, you could get a spdif cable and run it from the TT to the MPC spdif input. That way your TT has a dedicated record input on the MPC and your analog inputs are free for multi-source sampling from the mixer.

Not sure about the cartridge I'll have to check, but it's stock.

I always keep the record gain at zero because I get minimal feedback and static that way. Of course this was when I was using the portable numark with outrageous sound output(built-in amp and speaker).
