Best Pre Amp for Drums???

Any suggestions on a good preamp? I usually like to track my drums from the MPC to my DAW (Logic)...I would like to run the drum sounds through a preamp.

why do you want to run through a preamp?

Pres are personal taste.....You have to try em to get an idea. My fave all around preamp is:






But Ive met a ton of dudes that wouldnt **** with one. If you can, try em before you buy em. If you cant.....well, I wouldnt buy a pre I havent heard on multiple sources. The preamp I posted is $2200....So making a bad purchase will hurt for a long time, lol.

I own the single channel version of this pre amp, the UA Solo 610. I got mine for $700 brand new. I use mine for vocals, but have ran drums through it before. With a touch of color, they can sound really nice and warm(after eq'ing of course). Honestly, why not just record into your DAW, and then use a plugin like Vintage Warmer, or Sausage Fattener? Tons of people use both of these with very very good results. I like sausage fattener because it is so easy to use. A gain knob(which acts as a compressor), and then a color knob(self explanatory). You can get a TON o f different sounds by just turning these knobs and using your ears. Good luck!!

^^^I sampled the entire drum library series in mono from my tech, through that ****, into my mpc. Recommending a plug-in over the 610 is . Try running a turntable or a bass guitar through the UA and you will not be disappointed.....TBH, Im shocked that you havent tried running other sources through it, even just to A and B!

If you are looking for versatility, however, a plugin might give you more chance to experiment, and not spend (too much) money....not my thing though, so you know Im biased.....
