Question about integrating MPC1000 and tracking to DAW

Ok, starting with the basics:
Operating System: Mac OSx, Intel Snow-Leopard
DAW: Garageband

Also running: Yamaha keyboard w/ MIDI -- MPD26 MIDI Pad -- FocusRite Saffire Pro40 Interface -- KRK Rokit 8 Monitors.

I'm very aware that I may need to upgrade my DAW, but before I jump to conclusions, I want to get a couple other possibilities out of the way.

I have the focusrite connected to the mac via firewire cable. No issues there, garageband fully recognizes the interface and all the inputs.

My issue is getting my MPD26 to sync up with the MPC1000.
and my other issue is tracking the exact sound from the MPC1000 sampler to my DAW. I can get it to recognize it via MIDI, but I want the samples/sounds that are on the MPC1K internally. I dont want to route it via MIDI because those aren't the sounds/samples I'm looking to use.

If anyone has any idea on where to start with this issue, it'd be very much appreciated.
I've tried multiple hook ups, i've search google/forums far and wide, and thought of everything I could.
So I thought I'd see what the experts can tell me.

if im not mistaken, your mpd 26 will never be able to control your mpc 1k, because there is only a usb cable on the back, not a midi out.

regaurding your other question, you have your mpc connected via midi to your interface right? if im reading this right, you are controlling an instrument in garagband via midi and you want the actual sounds from your mpc intead.

your gonna create a external midi track (not sure if garageband is capabale of this, but logic is)

then your gonna go midi out on your mpc to midi in on your interface, and midi out of your interface to midi in of your mpc.

then youll need actual quarter inch AUDIO cables (because midi isnt audio) to go out of your mpc stereo out ( you can also go out each individual out if your interface is big enough but lets stick to basics for this), to your interface line in channel 1 and 2.
(or whatever line ins you want to go into).

now your gonna have to make sure your audio inputs on your garagband are set to 1 and 2, and youll be able to record the midi you made to audio.

look up midi handshake for more in depth info about what your trying to do.

The '26 totally has an old skool MIDI Out, as well as USB.

Garageband, unfortunately, does not. It's software instruments or audio tracks only.

So if you want the 26 talking to the 1K, just connect the 26 MIDI Out to the 1K MIDI In. Then connect up the MPC audio outputs to the Focusrite (awesome interface, btw!) and record it as an audio track in Garageband, as damien907 says.

No need for MIDI handshakes or anything like that, you've got a pretty simple MIDI setup there, but it would work. If you were to upgrade your DAW, you could do fancy things like record your MIDI performance AND the audio from the MPC, but Garageband isn't going to step up to that.
