My Setup: MPC3000 & Sound Modules CONNECTED to Digidesign Midi I/O / Protools DAW

I prefer using the MPC to sequence drums from my modules and soft synths etc.

Ran into a problem today, hopefully someone can help.

No problems when I sequence from a sound module drum kit to make a beat, but today i wanted to create an entire MPC music sequence using a drumkit(track1/midi 1), bassline(track2/ midi 2), Piano(track3/midi 3) all from the same drum module(mo'Phatt) for example.

Normally, if MPC was directly connected to Mo'Phatt this would be no problem... Just match midi numbers/programs to MPC tracks & Mo'Phatt... and create away.

Problem is that my MPC and Sound mods are connected to a digidesign Midi i/o from which I have to use protools to route the midi assignments.

I sequence the first mpc track/midi 1... no problem, but when i create mpc track2 and change the mo'phatt midi channel to 2 in protools then hit record to sequence track2... I hear my first track1 sequence playback in the track2 midi assignment sound.

I guess my question is... how do i sequence with the MPC and mo'phat thru protools/midi i/o as if i was directly connected.

I hope someone understands what I wrote... Sorry if i breed confusion.

Thanks

why are you sending MIDI track data in and out of Pro Tools?

I prefer to record my midi keyboard parts in protools which allows me better editing but record my beats with the MPC in which I usually record to protools before layering midi keyboard parts etc from protools.

I see. In that case, why not keep the MPC directly connected to the module and programme that wat but use the module MIDI OUT of the module to track out the MIDI notes to Pro Tools. Then, when you have recorded and edited the MIDI notes, patch the MIDI OUT of the PT MIDI interface into the MIDI in of the module, bypassing the MPC.

There should be another way around it that doesn't require patching but I'm not familiar with Pro Tools since 6.9.

Thanks for that, but yeah I was hoping there would be a way to patch thru protools. All my modules are racked up in a KK audio workstation up against a wall... It's heavy and would be a hassle and defeat the purpose of the clean setup... Plus I midi record keyboard sounds from the modules into protools too.

It's like having a custom built-in entertainment center constructed and everything is in place and looking pretty, but when I want to watch a blu ray I have to pull everything out to connect the player to the tv. Sheesh

Trying to do the same thing. Did you ever figure it out?
