sm57/58 alternative

im looking for a cheap mic, preferably sturdy, good for brass (not too mellow)
doesnt need to be top notch at all
any suggestions?

does it have a multiband compressor?

beggin the question....what is wrong with a sm57/58?

i dont know a mic as robust.

the sennheiser 835 is not too bad... but it's similar to a 58 anyways... maybe a bit brighter... but what is the 57/58 not doing for you like tapedeck asked?

maybe look for a used audio technica AT3035... great mic for the price as well.

im asking because a shop in my town has new mics at a fourth the price of a used shure mic..

what kind? those wharfdale mics are great because theyare priced cheap and you can throw them down the stairs or what ever other abusive thing without having to worry that you are about to loose 100+ dollars .. the dm2.0 is not too bad sound wise for the price..

at that price, you might as well bite the bullet and try one.. I mean usually you get what you pay for.... but maybe you will find some value in those.

Either way, at the end of the day it might be good to have a beater mic lying around.
