Wireless play/stop button

Hello,hello .
This is not really a studio only question cause I'm looking for a solution for the stage.
Here is what I wanna do:

Using a bluetooth device to control a notebook behind the theater curtain.
First I thought about a wiimote mod but I need something smaller to build it inside a footswitch case.
I'm really new to bluetooth and only know that it uses 2,4GHz. So I hope someone here can give me an answer.
In my electronic crate I found a wireless mouse and the sticker on the case read 2,4GHz so I guess its a bluetooth mouse, right?.
I'm about to buy an USB bluetooth adapter (receiver). Is it possible to "connect" both and use the mousebutton to control something on the notebook WITHOUT affecting the real mouse (wich is a cable mouse connected via USB).

The wireless mouse need to be recognised as a bluetooth device but not as bluetooth mouse I guess.


I'm on Windows XP SP3 BTW and I thought about glovepie as software for this.

some friends of mine were using ZigBee to transmit wireless data from accelerometers, etc, so a simple button press should be no problem.

might be a little moe 'from scratch' than you are trying to do.

what about a wireless keyboard (number pad?) - hacked apart and recased so only a few keys are actually used?

again, some friends took a usb number pad and rewired it into a footswitch.

personally, i have always liked the aesthetic of using a computer keyboard as a stompbox, and spacebar shouldn't be too hard to hit

Thanks. I've bought a cheap bluetooth adapter but it doesn't regognise the mouse so either the mouse is damaged or it's a different wireless system (no bluetooth).

The ZigBee sounds interesting but a bit too much for me but the keypad solution sounds really nice. I'll probably go that way if noone have another idea.
