does anyone carry around a laptop instead of a workstation

Man but the rewards!!! I am the same situation, I don't have a portable set up. but I hesitate to think carying my musical outlet around is a practical solution, since it is quite valuable and it is more likely to get messed up.

I think the best solution is to have a portable means adn then have it integrated into your main set up. I was laptop based for a while, and I don't regret leaving that situation one bit. Sometimes it is the grass is always greener, and there is no shortage of "I should never have sold my..." stories.

i few months ago i was in the same seat as you dennison......and i definately feel what your saying; i still feel like that. i agree with all of you that mwalker does make some good points.

I attemepted to solve my "portability solution" I bought an emu px7. Its a command station. Anyways, i got a real deal on it. i figured i could use it because its small, and portable, and all the sounds and sequencer would be in one unit. Well, after moving it around, and using it in other places then my studio-i found that i dont really use it as much as i thought i would.

When ever im someplace else then my studio, i do other things. I dont really have the time to work in my studio, let alone do music somewhere else. Plus when i do use it, i end up using my mpc as the sequencer, incorporating it into my entier setup.

As far as a laptop, i dont think it would necessarily help my situation-unless i sold just about everything. A good point though, it would be nice if i didnt have to take my mpc to the recording studio (where i record) and have to worry about someone elses triton to work right with my midi.

all in all i do feel like i got so much disorganization with my gear. Got save something here, gotta save this, shit, i forgot to save that. The pcg file isnt working.........i dont remember where i got that sample from, wheres that disk. I am scared of the click of death. I need another cable.
