[quote="mpc3000"]"Basically i think the 1k is for like, computer users, that when it comes down to the final beat, its all layed out and ready to be sequenced inside the mpc1k.....and they can take it live, or take it to a studio, and just bring the mpc."
Well the others are not as effecient for computer setups as the mpc1000 is. With exception to the 4000. I think the mpc1000 is a compromise between the mpc4000 and the 2000. You get usb to work with a computer....but is for people who want to use a computer sample editor anyways, so it lacks features of both as far as sample editing. Generally speaking, with the mpc3000, or 2000 you would be less likely to rely on your computer (not saying that you would) but because of the lack of usb, and faster media...you would less likely use a computer. On the mpc1000, its meant to be used with a computer. When the 2000 or 3000 where made, they where meant to be more stand alone, but you could use it with a computer. The mpc1000 is meant to be for those whoe want to use it with a computer; i definately think thats the market akai went for.
"The buttons are arranged differently...thats a big differance"
Is a true statement. Yeah, if you are coming from a 2000 standpoint, its not what youre use to. But regardless of that, its still differnt....this could be a factor for anybody deciding to purchase an mpc. For example: if i did absolutely no sampling, but just sequenced synths....i would want the best layed out sequencer-i think anybody would agree, that the mpc2000 or 3000 is tried and tested, and is overall better layout for a sequencer. I mean, why stare at a small screen if you dont have too. Why add more menus? this is fine, if you are willing to sacrifice this, for usb, and size and really want to use a computer.
Alot of catz compare these things, just to justify thier purposes. Personally, i dont, cause i dont give a ****.....i have enough $$ to have both plus a mpc4000.....and that statement doesnt even mean shit. It all boils down to what someone actually needs and balancing price and features for those needs. Akai wants customers and users to compare these things, in hopes to sell more units. There are reasons these companys limit features, and add Acessories, or come out with new units-to **** get you to spend more money. Its good to know what the actual differances are, from all stand points, so that you can spend your moeny wisely, otherwise you just be unhappy and spend more money.
I would trust a previous mpc user more than i would a magazine add, or a salesperson. Yeah, our opinions might be biased, but I dont think any mpc user would dogg, another mpc. I love all mpcs!
