Sorry for a newb question fella's, I need help

Someone just sold me an Apogee One for stupid cheap and I'm thinking about keeping it instead of flipping it.

My horrible ? is : since all it has is an XLR connection on the breakout cable, can I get a splitter like this



and then run the left and right XLR's out of my Rane 57 to it and record a stereo signal in ?

I just want to keep it to run my turntables into it (if I can) .

Looking at the Apogee specs on the website, I think you're out of luck for true stereo recording. It says it has one input + the built in mic. I think they assume you'll just be recording external single mics and single 1/4" instrument stuff like guitars.

Looks like that usual 2 in 2 out labeling that is slightly misleading while technically true. Here they counted the in built mic. Ones that say like 16 ins, will actually be 8 1/4"'s, count SPDIF as a stereo pair, maybe count an ADAT port...you get the picture.

no sorry its mono only in via any of the jacks.

still, it is a really great device, the built-in mic is actually pretty incredible - try it out using the box itself as a mic, you will be surprised.

You're pretty much mashing the left and right signals into mono with that cable, its impossible to get a stereo mix from a mic input. If the Apogee had two mic inputs then you can work it.

Thanks for the replies. I already kinda knew the answer but was hoping someone had a "magic remedy" . Plus I like the unit.
