Can anyone give me some advice

I just got the powerbook g4. i have the mpc2000xl. i want to get an edititing program that won't hurt my wallet too bad. eventually i want to get logic when i get some money in my life. should i hold out for logic or is there something like cool edit i can use in the meantime?

if your on osx u got to get this, not that expensive either.
