My friend owns one. Easy to use, sounds good. It is on my to buy list after I get the Neve1073.

If I wanted to use it for drum tracks, is it better to use in the signal path or as an insert? Or is it best used as a stereo pair on a drum bus mix?

insert id say...do all my compression, eq, enhancing via inserts...an insert over a buss is even better then you can have the effected buss drums and then also uneffected from the mixer channels...good for layering, a/b-ing......
plus easier to unplus and stick in another channel insert.....

So do you use on individuals tracks or just 2 final bus Tracks???

depends....as it is a lush compressor id use it over the stereo buss so you can compress all your drums....my drums are set out on at least four if not 6-7 channels so id need three distressors to compress my drum track...so id send them all to a buss and compress the buss....plus youll get a different sound by compressing the whole beat rather than compressing individual elements and mixing them (which is another story)...
so yeah for a whole beat use the buss.....and this is where you'll find how well balanaced your beat is cos if one element is too loud it will mess the groove of the beat once the comp is pumping meaning you'll have to readdress the volumes of your individual elements...still all good fun!!

IT'S ALSO ON MY TO BUY LIST BUT I have a feeling it's mono so you need two if you want to do stereo mix compression.... it's sound is fantastic....
one of the best around imo...
