Acid Pro 4 - For Recording MPC tracks

Just want to let everyone know first all this site is the most informative MPC / Hip Hop website I have seen on the web outside of Mike's from midicase.com

Currently I am using acid pro 4 to record my tracks i created on the mpc and then I convert them to wav files.

Is their a certain setting that will ensure that all tracks you record are at a "good" level where insturments arent having a muffled type of sound.

(the bass specifically)

Some of my tracks record a lot clearer then others.
Is it the norm to adjust recording settings everytime you record or is their a master settings that will ensure all your tracks have the same quality.

theres no master magic setting


a rule of thumb in setting your levels is to set around -3. this will allow for a good signal to noise ratio and yet not clip if a few transients spike up long the way.


for homework do a search on google (http://google.com) and read up on UNITY GAIN for a greater insight into setting levels effectively


are you just recording the ONE time, recording a "finished" track in ACID4.0, or are you recording track by track?

if you are recording the one file, you are better doing it in soundforge for slightly better sound quality and more recording options. BE SURE your levels on the MPC are playing within range, that includes EACH CHANNEL (ie mixer) and the MASTER (ie master output volume).


i would recommend you take the time to record out of the MPC both ways... in other words record once the whole finished song, save it.

then record again each track by track, and mix them down in Acid, save it.

compare the two files.... you make up your own mind which sounds better and wether its worth your effort.
