Which Macintosh Should I buy For a Protools Hook Up??

First, I'd like to State I'm not trying to spend over 1100 bucks for a Mac hook up.So, What should I look for in a Mac Hook up?? G4?? iMac?? G5?? And How much should I expect to pay??

G5 if you can scrape together the paper...If not G4 is the minimum. Power/Ibook G4/G5 if you want added portability

the only way to buy a new mac is to count your pennies and see which model you can afford. the best you can for the money you got.

but probably the best deal is the imacs, cos you get the screen included. not so with the powermacs. but then you got no pci slots... etc.

try online sales that open on wednesdays. some things crop up.

second-hand: like bravo said: don't go lower than a g4 (dual) 1ghz.

What about a standard G5 1ghz?? Should that be able to handle Protools??

It's actually tough to figure the options lately.
So, I feel ya.
a friend told me that it's probably best to get an Older Mix24 system than upgrade from my 001 to an 002. Intersting point.

Anyway, there's so much good quality used stuff outthere that it's scary.
Anyway, since you have a budget limit, I'd say, G4.
Still have to get more ram and large hard drives.
That's gonna add at least $300 to $400 to your kitty costs.

I have a G4/400 w/ a Gigadesign G-Celerator 1.4Ghz upgrade w/ 2 80GB internal hard drives. That system could cost you as little as $1,200 or as musch as $1,600. It works for me. But, I'm thinking of getting the Gigadesign Dual Processor upgrade.

I use a G4 450 (dual processor) 1.5 gig memory, 2 internal 30 gig drives, 120 gig external firewire drive and a digi 002 on OSX running PT 6.7 and its running flawlessly, maybe it could be running faster I dont know, i think its about average startup time being that I've never really seen another newer* mac run any faster.

I saw a dude onebay sellin the same mac for 400 bucks few weeks ago, if ur interested in an older cost efficiant mac. just remember that when u upgrade protools to anything beyond the newest 6.7 version... you MAY* have a few probs with hardware compatability. if ur comfortable with the new os... stick with itand dont upgrade.

I know plenty of people who still use 5.1 on mac OS 9 and wouldnt switch for the world...
