i am moving to laptop and solid state drives full time now. replacing the laptop's optical drive (it's 2014) with a hd caddy, giving me 2 ssds. i also noticed the card reader, and the prevalence of fifteen dollar 64gb sd cards on ebay.

i'm going to use this 64 gb card as a cloud-backed up drum library and it's gonna be cheap and awesome.

note that this wouldn't be ideal for constant read/writes, large library files, or streaming project audio due to the comparably slow read/write speeds compared to usb, ssd, or hdd - but it's great for oneshots and 10 mb drum breaks

i haven't used the 1000 in a couple of months. i am not making midi-triggered sample beats these days. i'm enjoying slicing and warping record samples in REAPER more for the type of sound i'm getting into. i've been working with the Quneo in Bidule as my drum pad controller and a Launchpad in Bidule as an autoharp-style arpeggiator.

i'm also retiring my old DAW, which is still an awesome computer. so what i'm gonna do is set up my record player, MPC and old DAW on a desk on the other side of the room, and use the whole rig as a sample recorder. the samples will automatically get saved and replicated to the DAW using google drive, and i can always use the MPC to create a song sketch like i used to.

i'll use IPmidi to route the midi from the MPC to my main DAW, and still have it to use as a controller when other musicians come over. i've also retired my old keyboard controller as well - i'll probably do the same thing with that. nice.
