buying cables, need help!

just about to buy loads of jack cables to hook my stuff up proper, may sound dumb, but I'm unsure where I need balanced and where I need unbalanced.

1)are the jack outs on mpc 2000 classic unbalanced?

2)are the rec jack ins on mpc unbalanced?

also, theres a large price range and different brands, how much will this actually effect sound quality? any recommends - DVC, Hosa, Konig??

i own dont have a 2000 but usually the outs will be unbalanced, stereo outs are balanced, and record ins are usually balanced.

depends on who you ask, but if you go to a major recording studio they will tell you brand matters. i couldnt afford all mogami cables so i had to buy some monsters. in the end you have to work according to your budget though.

anyone know for definite? I would check the manual if I had one.

am I right in thinking you can connect balanced cables to unbalanced sockets and vice versa,

for instance the sound card I'm getting has balanced ins but I don't think my mixer going to it has balanced outs.

Unbalanced to Unbalanced....Balanced to unbalanced becomes unbalanced so its a waste of cabel in a way (unless it is wired as balanced to unbalanced)

the reason I was asking about that was I didn't wanna damage anything by connecting up the wrong sort of cable.

akai dont have a 2000 non XL manual but I doubt there is differences in the balance (?) of the two models inputs and outputs.

just realised its going to cost me a few quid to get these cables, do you think I could buy 8 way looms and then split each one up so they are seperate, another money saving tip brought to you by ron didgi

I spoke to someone a Akai about a week ago regarding if these were balanced or unbalanced and the answer was unbalanced both on the ins and outs. if you want the sound to be balanced you'll need a pair of D.I. boxes but don't get cheap ones if you can afford good ones just use unbalanced cables. Whirlwind and behringer D.I. Boxes will not help your sound at all. hope this helps.

I just read the spec sheet for the 2000XL, all connections are unbalanced, except the record ins. Surely this would be the same for the non-XL?
