microkorg to mpc4000, what am i not doing?

i have a microkorg and I am connecting it into midi inI. I have gone through the manual and am obviously missing something. I just want to be able to play this synth into the mpc using the mpc as the master time clock, and to incorporate the korg library into my beats. help!?

*set global off on the the korg,
(meaning it does not respond to the front pannel directly, so you press a note nothing happens, conect it via midi and that data(note) goes through the mpc back into the korg and says play that note,)

*set the Midi channel on the MPC to respond to the midi channel on the korg,
say on the ----------------------------------korg part1 channel 1
so the MPC track has to be set to --------channel 1 on the correct midi output (on midi port A fxample)

*you need to hook the korg midi out to midi in on the mpc
and the MPC midi out to the korg midi in
so set the MPC Part to midi/out port A (there are 4 outs ABCD)
part has to be set to MIDI channel1

*you need to set the korgs midi clock to external

the MPC must be set to recive on that channel, (its set to recive on any channel initialy on power up..

then you can use the korg to play whatever you want just select a dif track in the MPC whatever is on that track DRumprogram/samples or external gear sound moudule synth will play, you can even set the knobs on the korg to controle the mpc or whatever is on that track

Thanks for the tips. I have the microkorg and the mpc cooperating with each other, but not completely. I set all the midi on the korg and the mpc. ran midi out of korg,into mpc, and mpc out a into korg. the korg will affct the mpc and the mpc drum pads play the sounds of the korg, but the only sound i can hear come when i have the headphones plugged into the korg. they are not playing on the main outs. I still hear the metronome etc. but not the korg. it will record the sequence but it won't play through my main out. again, i can hear everything but only through headphones plugged into the korg not in the monitors. I've read both manuals manys times and am still missing something.

What you are missing is a mixer to hear both MPC and MicroKorg.
MIDI is only data no sound passes thru, the MPC is triggering the sounds from the Micro.

thanks for the reply. Why do my samples, etc. play in sequence and i hear them through the monitor yet i cant hear the korg coming through the mpc to the monitors. even with headphones into the mpc i can't hear the korg. it is a synth at the same time so i should be able to hear it as well, correct? the only way i hear the korg and mpc accepting it is when the headphones are in the korg. am i missing something in the sync field of the mpc? it seems so close to working that its driving me crazy. Is there a more in depth manual for the mpc 4000? other support? a human I can talk to?

Not an idiot, yet still slightly confused.

You would take the output of the Micro and the MPC into channels on the mixer, then listen to the Headphone out or connect the Monitor out of the mixer.
That way you can hear both of them, thew MPC will seq. the sound in the Micro.
You will have to change that channel on the MPC to a MIDI ch. instead of the Drum ch.
Depending on which MIDI input you use MIDI in 1 or 2, will be 1-16 (A) or 17-32 (B).
Keep it simple and use MIDI in 1, Hope this helps.

thanks to all for help. I ran the mpc through one channel on my turntable mixer and the korg through the other and it worked out for me. I guess the next step is to get a multi channel mixer.

when saving files in mpc is there anything different that i need to do to save the midi signals. when i load the file in again does the korg need to be on all the same setting or will it remember what it told the mpc?

I would save the midi files, and put that on the same disk you saved the Drum program.
As far as the Settings of the Micro, you need to save any tweekage you did to the Micro.
If you don't you'll have to tweek it the same everytime, and to get the MPC to tell the Micro what progam to be on you need to save a program change or Sys Ex(system exclusive message) data.
Sys ex message can set up all your gear if you do it right, anything with a MIDI I/O (EQ's, delay's, reverbs, etc.)
