Good midi interface

Hey

I want to start using the Mac Book Pro (2.4GHz, i5) as a sound module for the MPC 60 (as i dont have the space or money for more analog kit). So I want the MPC to sequence (ideally) multiple VSTs. Also, does the 60 wobble with multiple midi? Now i have read some horror stories regarding latency etc. Can someone recommend a really good midi interface please?

You mean a midi interface, or a midi+audio interface?

For pure midi, the m-audio/Midisport range are probably the most wideley used. For your purposes at least 4 midi inputs would be necessary to use the 4 midi outputs of the MPC60 simultaneously. If you're using Logic, my old tutorial may help you to set things up.

Cheers for the info Clint. Not sure im missing something, but most combined audio/midi interfaces i see only have the one in/out midi and not multiple? So yeah, ideally a 12 input audio interface but with 4 midi input...Cant seem to find out unless im missing some fundemental work flow?

You can make it work with just one midi input on your interface. Send tracks from the MPC to daw using different midi channels. This way you can trigger multiple vst's in your software.

If you have a bigger midi rig, a dedicated midi interface (or midi patchbay) with 4 or more inputs would be far more convenient to avoid constant repatching.

Old but relevant, the instruments in Logic are a joy to sequence from an MPC.

Ah I might aswell get a combined midi/audio interface then. Great tutorial Clint, I used Logic a while back and remember the environments not being much fun. Just need to find myself another copy of Logic.

So something like the MOTU Micro Lite (4 ins) could do me for the time being? And a decent audio interface further down the line...

Well if you need more than one midi input, then get a dedicated midi interface.

MOTU has a good rep, so I dont see any reason why not.

If you have the room for a 12 input breakout box you have the room for a 1u rack sound module. And price wise an emu Proteus 2K will run you just over a hundred bucks. Zero latency issues and expansion later takes up no space.
