Another newb, basic questions.

So I bought an MPC 3000 a couple months ago. I'm pumped to step into the production side of music, but honestly don't know much about what I need. Sampling & the whole Boom-Bap sound is what I'm ultimately trying to get at. I just recently bought a turntable (Technics SL1200MK2) & mixer (Technics SHEX1200K). I'm new to all of this. I understand there's more to it than just laying down drums & sampling a vinyl record. I just want to learn & do all of this correctly. I'm currently using headphones for my Mp & haven't connected any of my current gear to it. I'm also looking for monitors as we speak (currently looking at KRKs, some NS10s).

My first question has probably burned through this thread, but how do I connect all of it together? My turntable to mixer, that to my mp, etc? What wires should I look into if it matters?

Second, what gear do I need for proper sound? I've heard & read about several pieces I may want to look at (e.g. a pre amp), but I could use more opinions. From what I listed, do I have enough to at least start sampling & making tracks?

Third, what would you guys recommend I look into as far as additional gear? Budget isn't an issue, although I'm not looking to lose an arm, obviously. I just want to start on the right foot & not lose money I could have saved in the process.



This is my current setup. I know. It's pretty weak . But I know I'll get to where I'm trying to be soon. I appreciate all & any feedback.

well hookup the turntable to one of the inputs on the mixer.. and run the master output into the record inputs on the mpc... that way when you play records you can sample the sound into the mpc.

now, you need to hear all of that so you need to have the mpc connected to some speakers or headphones... or other gear etc. I suggest for now you do that, and use headphones which I am sure you have. When you get monitors you can then connect those to the main outputs of the mpc, or better yet... you can get an audio interface to plug the mpc main outs into and the speakers go from the interface... that will allow you to record your mpc beat into the computer...

if you don't have any records... connect your ipod to the other channel in the mixer or something like that.
