Anyone have a Roland Alpha juno midi'd to mpc?

Going crazy looked all over here and both manuals. i see people have also had problems bc juno sends sysex but still no dice. tried every filter setting in the mpc 2xl with program off, and everything set to no except note. yes i'm using a mixer for both sound outputs, track set to midi1a, etc. anyone else have a juno/alpha 1-2, old roland? midi monitor on mpc is getting data in/out on 1/a, just nothing being recorded or played back at all in any combination of filter setting on mpc and midi on juno.

It has a switch in the back for different midi modes, the Alpha juno. One setting is for using it with the midi controller and won't work with regular midi. make sure that's right. also midi out to midi in, midi in to midi out.

Thanks yes the memory protect switch does have to be in the off position which I have it set to. I have the midi handshake and still not able to actually record in the sequence although the mpc is definitely the master and synth the slave.
Juno manual says to turn soft-thru to off which I did. Something very small that I'm missing that has something to do with the juno
