New to the MPC world and need some advice on what equipment to get.

I understand I need either a phono preamp or a dj mixer to connect to the turntable, but I'm not at all sure which of two is a better option. Having read other threads, most people seem to have mixed feelings about the topic. Being that I already have a mixer, I reckon I could run a phono preamp into the mixer and that's that. Should I do away with my conventional mixer and get a dedicated dj mixer or go the phono preamp route? What's the best option in terms of sound quality, EQuing, cost, etc.

If it helps, my gear is as follows:

Technics 1200 MK2
Behringer Xenyx 502
MPC 1000
M-Audio BX5

Any and all advice appreciated. Thanks!

Consider your workflow first and foremost. I had a great sampling workflow when I used a little 2 channel Rane mixer with my Akai MFC42 hooked up to the effects loop. Being a constant tinkerer, I sold it to pursue a slightly different way of working which never paid off.

A DJ mixer hooked up to the MPC just works. 8)

Thanks for the replies. The MFC42 is a bit out of my price range for now, but for sure will look into that in the near future. As for the dj mixer, I'd prefer to go with the preamp + external mixer setup being that I already have one and money is an issue. What's a good, cost-effective preamp that I could use?
