I want to use the MPC 1000 as a looper for my samples and instruments, but I want to sculpt & trigger my drums using FPC (in FL Studio) with a separate USB MIDI Controller. I want to sequence my drums using FL Studio 10XXL and have the FL Studio sequence to play, start & stop on time with my MPC 1000. I'd like to have it set up in a way, so that whenever I hit play on one or the other, both MPC and FL Studio start at exactly the same time, so I could play along with one or the other. But I'm confused as to which would be best to have as Master and Slave.

I use FPC as my drum source, because I have all my drums on the PC and it's easy to just scroll through them and drop them into FPC. I use my USB Alesis MIDI Keyboard VI25 to trigger the drums from FPC. And my MPC is used to loop sample sequences and layers.

I don't have a MIDI Interface to connect the MPC to the PC for MIDI yet, so I'm asking for a recommendation as well.

it will be easier to just do all that on one or the other... have all the samples on the computer and sequence with the 1000 might be okay but what is the point... you should be trying to find the easiest way to accomplish your goal instead of trying to use both pieces of gear out of principle.

I may be getting in over my head a bit, but I'm just trying to turn the MPC 1000 into a glorified MIDI pad controller for my drums only. I have WAY to many GB's of drums I choose from to have them all sitting on the MPC CF Card, plus I have more layering and FX options for my drums on the PC using FPC and FL Studio's mixer.

I just want to have a sample loaded into FPC and have the MPC 1000 trigger it and have 16 Levels applied. Then the notes are recorded to the MPC's grid.

Would this not be the same as if you had samples sitting on something like an Sp 303 and wanted to apply 16 Levels velocity and record and sequence the 303? except in my case, the samples are in FL Studio.

Is applying 16 Levels by MIDI triggering an external source and recording to the MPC's grid sequencer possible?

well i suggest you run a midi output from the mpc to your midi input on your audio interface (if you have one) and on the mpc in the midi options you choose midi clock, and try that.. and if you have midi MMC that would be the one that also should link the transport controls.

the thing is... im not sure how 16 levels will behave through midi out. However to set up pads to trigger external sounds you should check the manual for the OS you are using... it would be perhaps on the main screen in the drum menu (it would be on many other models) or check the program menu...
