PT-01

Hey guys,

Seen a few PT-01's getting around in some videos on beat production. Just curious if anyone has any experiences or thoughts on these turn tables for sampling. I use a Technics 1200 at the moment but am looking at experimenting with the PT-01 just to see what type of sound would prevail.

Full disclosure, I haven't used one, but I think if you already have a 1200 you won't find much use for a PT01. Unless you need a table to travel with.

I think it's not easy to find something better than the 1200MKII for a reasonable price. It's a very very good turntable. I once looked at other turntables from the Project brand up to a thousand bucks and more... if you compare the technical specs, you'll see it's not worth it and you can safely keep using the 1200MKII. Don't sweat it, you got a very decent setup with the 1200...

The best upgrade you can do is to properly calibrate your turntable, get the original thick rubber mat, and maybe a good cartridge and phono preamp.

I bought a PT-01 recently with a view to replacing my Technics SL-3200 for sampling duties. Just liked the idea of having a 'raw', simple, portable set-up, and I could've used the money from selling the Tech and my DJ mixer for other stuff. However, it turns out it's as noisey as shizz (serious 'rumble'/surface noise; returned the first one i received, thinking it was faulty and got another but it was the same!) and when I A/B'd it against the Technics, the difference in tone and overall sound was VERY noticable, really flat sounding, and the cart on the Technics isn't even an expensive one (Audio Technica AT95e). I don't regret getting it, coz it is a fun, tidy little deck for when you want to listen to something quick, and it will obviously come in handy when I next go "digging" but, alas, it won't cut it for sampling.

Had pt01 it's good for digging.. sampling not so much...I know vestax got something similar, not sure if it's any better or worse
