I've taken a look at a couple of synths and I was looking for opinions on the best synth for the buck. I've pretty much ruled out workstations because I use my mpc 2000xl to sample and sequence. Ive played all the workstations and im really feeling the motif. SO this being said im looking for rack synths/modules. This is what as i see for some options: Get a emu (proteus, mo phatt ,or planett phatt for cheap), wait for motif-es rack version to come out later this year, triton rack, roland xv-5050. Feel free to give me opinions on any of the above or suggest others...

IMO the sound quality on the mo-es and fantom-xr are the two best that are out (will be out). i like the synths on the xr better than the mo-es, and i would say the "real" instruments are on par with the es. as far as effects go, again i like the roland effects better. remember, you can use it as an fx unit also.

The XR is definetly good, but it is hella expensive. It's one of the newer racks out so the retail/resale is still a little high.

The sample engine, patch editing, ease of use and overall sound quality is the best part about this thing. Some patches do tend to sound "light" at times but once you record/mix your tracks you can fix that problem easily

what about a regular motif.....not the ES but the old one. I seen them at musicfriend for around 1200. Its the same sound engine as the motif rack plus you get the keys. They are brand new.

otherwise. I would go for the motif just because its cheaper. spend the differance on a controller keyboard, or expansion card
