hookig up a sound module to mpc 4000

hello everybody, i am new to the mpc world. i recently got a mpc 4000 and have been playing with it and reading manual for last few days.

what i cant figure out is (prob a dumb question) why i cant hear what is played from my sound module (triton rack) overhead on main monitors simultaneously with the drum beat (sequence) on the mpc? I believe my connections are all correct. when i press a key on my midi keyboard the midi light on the sound module flickers as if it is receiving the signal, all good but i do not hear the synth from the sound module. If i want to hear what im playing sound module wise i have to put headphones into the sound module itself and then i can hear what im triggering via the midi keyboard.

what im trying to figure out is if you can simultaneously hear both sequences from mpc (drums) and your synths from sound module at the same time coming from your main monitors?

Im starting to come to notion that i may have to record the sound module as a sample (im looking at manual and its talking about hooking up cd player, turntable etc. to sample but neither of those are where my synths are originating from), in order to get simultaneous play back so i do not have to have headphones plugged into sound module? can anyone tell me if this is correct and offer and tips.. i know im missing some piece of puzzle here that i cant link together at the moment.

Right now you just might need some MIDI headphones...?

No srsly, Do you have MIDI cords? How are they hooked up? Do you have a mixer? What are your audio cables connected to?

yes i have midi cords. i have 1 going out of my midi keyboard to midi in I on mpc. also have another midi cable goin from mpc out a to triton rack in. i do not have a mixer. i use pro tools to record etc but havent made it that far into this process yet to hooking it up with that. i have 2 speaker/monitor cables goin from main out of mpc to monitors thru 1/4 ends.

OK! The reason your not hearing the Triton is because the audio is going NOWHERE!!! You need a mixer to monitor the output of the MPC and the Triton AT THE SAME TIME!

any recommendations? does it need to be certain tracks/channels (8,16 etc?) i have a roland vs2000 workstation, has 8 ch 16 track mixer etc., dunno if i could use that or rest of board would interfere with mpc as its not just a mixer?

That would work perfectly. Run the outputs of the MPC and the Triton to the inputs of the VS2000, run the main output of the VS to your monitors. Enjoy!

Hi David here, I’m new. I don’t want to offend any MPC people, I’m a logic person. I wish there was a MPC sound module that can be triggered from my keyboard. I don’t want to relearn sequencing ( I actually bought an (MPC) and could get to work on my computer. Better yet if Akai could make a virtual synth version of the MPC...I just want the sounds, cuz eventually it’s all going to end up on the computer for mixing and mastering.

They made one one 8 years ago, the MPC software, it can run as a vst, au or aax. They even have a free version called MPC beats. Akaipro.com might be worth a visit
