also illegal. copyright law allows you as the original owner to sell it, (for whatever you want, otherwise there'd be no used bookstores or used cd places, cuz that transfer of ownership would violate copyright law)

NOtE!!!! I AINT -as in I AM NOT a lawyer nor am I giving legal advice yadda yadda, just stating what I have read on the issue (in light of the RIAA attacks I been doing a lot of readin on copyright law, especially since I make electronic music)
but if you sell software, you are obliged by the copyright and user agreements (look in it, its 100% there, transfer of ownership rights and responsabilities) to remove it from your use if you sell it, IE you are breaking the law if you dont remove any software from your pc after you sell it. Do people do it? i dont know. Same with cd's, you have to remove the mp3's and stuff you ripped off your cd's when you sell them. Do people do it? I dont know.
This goes back to the whole "pay money for software", the problem is: stuff like MPC editor, INVALUABLE, and woth every penny you pay out. Stenberg Cubase SX, worth 500 dollars? nope. Is the Digi 002 worth 2 grand? nope. Is a Vs1880 worth 2 grand? nope.
That is the problem with relativly small user markets like home audio, there aint a lot of home recorders (at lest not like there are CD listeners) so they have to charge more for the stuff they sell in a crowded high competition market.(big studios can afford it so the main burden is put on cats like us, the non superstar cats) If this was like CD's, man Cubase SX would cost 100-150 and be worth it then.
that is the problem, you have overpriced stuff, and when software is overpriced people have no compunction about snatching it from somewhere, this means that the prices for new releases keep going up and companies hold back features (IE REASON) so that the people who pirated the 1.0 gotta go get 1.5, then 1.8 then 2.0 then 2.5, and on and on until the decide to break down and pay the $$$.
the problem is, people like MPC3000 who made his editor, get these same people, spoiled by a "will not pay for software" attitude that rip him off. The end reuslt? compaines like the guys who programmed the new os for the tx16W fold. WHy? those guys were on it, and had plans to revamp os's for A LOT of samplers to make them easy. BUT they never got to do it cuz their os typhoon, got mad jacked from them. Granted it wasnt much but to the tiny business of bedroom cats, that 5 grand they make off that os, is enough to fund them doing a new os for the MPC, then when that hits doing an os for the esi32, etc. they were poised to become the kings of "rebirthing" old samplers you can use in the modern era. Instead they got hosed and simply released the os as freeware.
I didnt used to think like this, but a convo with MPC 3000 on here and some other peeps changed my mind. Stealing from big companies only forces smaller ones out of the market and is stealing after all. The only way to lower prices here is for consumers to start PAYING for gear not the other way around. Once they realzie that we pay for it, and will only pay for the stuff that is good, then we'll go back to the "pre win 98" era AKA the era where software was not debugged by the consumer.
