MPC2000 via MIDI to Cool Edit pro v2 through edirol UM-1 USB

my problem is this. I have a regular pc, and i have cool edit pro v2 and an mpc2000. I'm trying to connect my MPC2000 to my computer soundcard (regular soundcard) through an edirol UM-1 (which has a midi in and midi out connection on one end and a USB connection on the other, so that i can connect for e.g. my mpc2000 to my pc). I connected the mpc2000 from the back, I connected the midi ports, and connected the usb to the back of my pc. At this point i open up cool edit and i'm trying to record a track. What i'm trying to do is this:

All i want to do is use the cool edit program to record my mpc music in sync. Like when i press record in the program, and record, it'll automatically play the mpc and start recording, so that way i can seperate tracks from my mpc song to cool edit without the tracks being out of sync. Or, press play from my mpc and the program start recording once i press play from the mpc.

If anyone can help with this problem, i would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

I do not understand what is the problem. You told us what you `want` to do, but you have not told us what is not working.

Something not starting? Stopping? Not maintaining sync? No audio?

yeah sorry, unfortunately it seems like everything is connected. I can't get the mpc2000 to record in sync on the cool edit pro. I'm trying to get it to where when i press record on cool edit, it'll trigger the mpc 2000 to start playing, so that it can record as a track on cool edit. Sort of like, by pressing record on cool edit, it'll trigger the mpc2000 to record, i can't get it to do that. Or vice versa, to press play on the mpc2000 that'll trigger cool edit to start recording. Hope i'm explaining it right, thanks for any help.

sounds like you are just connecting via midi to ypur pc. this way you cannot record anything in cooledit as midi doesnt send any audio. you have to hook up your mpcs audio outs to your pcs adio ins (besides hooking up midi)
