What is your opinion on the best synth for bass sounds?

If you want a real analog synth with excellent bass sounds try the Roland Juno-106. You can't go wrong with it especially in mono mode in which all 6 voices are stacked on top of each other. Real mean bass sounds. Plus you can create a myriad of other sounds and it's easy to learn. I love mine, I sleep with it under my left arm every night (MPC is under my right arm). You can easily get one in great shape on eBay for under $400.

I second that the Spectrasonics Trilogy VST plugin is first class. The bass sounds are huge and sound that way too. its not a synth though but a sample plugin.
the korg microkorg is a good and cheap synth which you could also use as a midicontroller for the mpc.

This guy knows waht time it is. I'm selling a gang load of stuff for a SE-1X, including a MS2000 (i sampled about 20 bass tone variations from it into the s950...woah, shakes the whole room).

You need to go to a shop that has lots of gear and audition some shit.

Everyone has their own favorites, but they might not suit you style especially with romplers or soundmodules.

If you get something like the Pulse, SE-1 or any other synth you can pretty much tweak it till you get the sound you want but they they don't do realistic bassguitar that well.
And don't rule out rack samplers. They are mad cheap now that everyone uses computers, and you're not stuck with one sound. You can get a good secondhand sampler with a couple of sample cd's for about the same price as a synth.
I have a Waldorf Pulse and a Crumar Bit1. both are exelent for analog sub-bass. But i use samplers for real bassguitar.
I listened to that Spectrasonic Trilogy as well, and it sounded really good. If my pc was a bit faster i would cop that. It has everything.
