Using the mpc for most of production - Self-contained mpc

I mainly produce hip hop beats. I've been through all the hardware samplers and I just want to stick withe the MPC for sampling and sequencing even though the sampler is very limited. I figured I can edit my samples with effects in soundforge. Havn't figured out how to get my WAVES plug-ins to open in Soundforge yet (any help guys!). I might get an effects processor (MPX 500) and go through the 8 outs for my samples I may want effects on. I like my drum samples dry. Thats it though. I'm tired of experimenting with all the other equipment out their. I just ready to make some dope music and just keep it simple. What are all your thoughts on this? Any advice from the MPC geru' s out their?[/color]

Yo Im in the same boat as you man. I would have more equipment if I had the $$$. But for the most part its the 2000xl and a ghetto keyboard. Keepin it simple makes you improve with what you g0t.

Yeah, these dudes who make beats crack me up because they go out and buy all this equipment based on what somebody else told them, not their own research. If you have a MPC and a keyboard, you'll be fine. I'm not sayin that you shouldn't add on to that, but damn-- learn and master the equipment you got first. I bought my MPC 2000 when I was livin in Japan so the manual for that was in Japanese so I'm learnin everything by just trial and error. My advice is to actually LEARN how to play your keyboard and it'll take you a lot farther and enhance your creativity. PEace.

Go into DX favorites, and hit organize. They're actually already there you just need to sort'em.Open the DX folder right click the ones you want or that folder and hit add to favorites. From there on out you recall the plug in you want from DX Favorites.

At the price of WAVE plugins, the first thing I would do is contact WAVES and ask them, seeing as you paid all that money for them, I'm sure they'd be happy to help, or even try Sonic Foundry/Sony - good technical support is one of the reasons this software is so expensive.

Obviously you have Sound Forge and some effects plugins, spending more money on an effects processor would just mean money coming out of your pocket when you already got ways to do effects.

I reckn' you should cop some kind of external efx...

What sounds nice is a bit of smooth compression...assuming your going to record your MPC back into your PC? I picked up a Berhinger for $150 bucks and it sounds quite good...Maybe some distortion too and a little Mixer for getting the levels nice and hot when it comes to recording. I have a Guitar Dist Pedal that I got second hand for $60 and I will tell you right now its so easy and quick and you don't have to click with some bloody mouse, and Ive used it to phaten up drums and bass countless times....

You don't necessarily need expensive stuff...The default efx and dynamics processors in Sound Forge are great (its too late if you allready copped a Waves bundle though) Personally I like the Antares Tube...I send all my drum samples through that puppy...and boy oh boy...woooo haaaa does it make them sound nice....
