Hands down the Mo phatt! Check this link out and see why now would be a good time to cop one or both. Well all you need is one you could get the Mo pahtt rom and install it yourself. http://www.emu.com/homemap.asp

The mo phatt is better to start with, but I would look at the proteus because it has some nice sounds also. I have the Proteus 2000 with the mo phatt and the world chips installed and I love the sounds.

You should try the ZR ROM, it's a banger!

I have the proteus 2000 with the mo phatt card in it. The proteus would be better because it has four expansion slots. So you can buy the expansion cards rather than buy the module.

True dat Expansion wise but if you're going to buy a Proteus in the near future the 2500 would be a better purchase. It comes with the same Composer Rom as the Proteus 2000 only and upgraded version. They went back and touched up the sound quality. Plus you get the additional 3 expansion slots just as in the 2000 plus an on board sequencer. Don't get me wrong the composer rom is alright, damm near the same as the Planet phat with the exception of the pianos just not as hip hop based as the Mo Phatt or Zr Rom. In my opinion the ZR 76 Rom blows the composer rom out of the water. It even has a GM bank of presets. A bank set up just like GM and of good sample quality.

Yeah the 2500 definately would be the way to go. I got my 2000 when they first came out. I wouldn't use the sequencer anyway I sequence on my Triton and the Mpc. It's a nice piece though.
