sample cds/zipdisks

what do you guys think of these sample cds sold on ebay for like $10-$50 bucks.Are they worth it?, are there any producers up in here who make a majority of their music using sample cds.

Im not big on sampling records yet!
I have been using mo phatt for sounds and the sounds sound very outdated and plus im getting very very tired of them!
Since i have 8 outs on my mpc and 8 ins on my soundcard these sample cds/zipdisks seem like the perfect way to go(easier recording), they are cheaper and have more sounds then having a studio with emu modules,korg, and yamaha modules/synths.

my next buy was going to be the motif rack,haha with those $1000 bucks imagine all the cds and zipdisks i could get!!!!!!Thats the right move,right?

I dont know dawg.......I brought a few from off of there and guess what.......I brought four of the same disk.....from four different people at four different times........I understand your point, but i would say its time to look at what else your equipment can do.......like tweeking parameters to acheive new sounds and to create new techniques........

I wouldnt cop those. I would sample from records mainly, but if you need good sample cds. Check out tutors. You can also check out big fish audios cds. They are pretty tight. Tutor and Samplecraze got ill sounds. Don't cop those wack E-Bay joints. Garbarge

the cds and zip disks im looking for gotta be in mpc format, str8 up the sounds already in programs and in perfect order so it takes away from the loading problem! Yea i want to make sure i buy quality sample cds for sure.

And about sampling, im not a big sampler, i just use single indivual sounds and make my own music, you know.i would never use loops buttt i do want to look into sampling guitar chords from old school songs and vocals from rnb singers.I know everyone else is doing it but you gotta be unique along with going with the trends and that means sampling.

i at obe point decided that i was spending too much time trying to sample sounds and just wanted to makes some beats, so i went out and snagged a couple of sample cd's.
i barely used them.
i went back to sampling right away, i kinda felt like i was cheating using the sample cd's. just didn't feel right.
so that was that with the whole sample cd thing. sampling records and cds for drum sounds and bass lines and everything was more fun and got me in a more creative state of mind. though this is not to say that it does not get frustrating on occasion. but worth it.

gordan i feel you...but thats not my style im more of the make "my own bassline" type of producer. But i love your style, i love hearing old classics and then out of nowhere im like "hey that the bassline from ice ice baby" or something like that.you guys know what I mean.
a lot of people say producers who str8 up sample like that arent even musicians cuz your taking other peoples music but anyone who makes beats like that know you gotta have crazy skills to do it and that it is its own artform.

How do you guys do that anyway?you get old songs from records like from the 70's and ish and during the song the band has a couple bars with only the bass playing or what.How do you take just the bassline out?

When you get a track on vinyl, usually you can find one that has several versions. Listen to the different mixes, and pull apart the one you like.

tru tru im mad interested in getting into sampling... i gotta start saving the dough for turntables,dj mixer, and tons upon tons of vinyl!

I copped a few off Ebay, and for the most part, i'm not complainin. For the most part they was runnin like $15, and I copped 4 different ones... Though a lot of em have like synth samples and shit, u wouldn't really use those, because of the pitch/speed change, but they also have a lot of drum loops you could chop and some one shots.... Shit, I didn't feel like I was cheatin, it ain't seem no different to me then usin the boys straight off the Motif, but I was feelin em, and I'd prolly buy more... One of mine had like 500 one shots, 50 different pre-made kits, and a bunch of loops, so some may have bad perceptions of em, but i was feelin em

Yo alot of the sample cd's are made by amatuers on ebay, just trying to make a buck... they usually are either low quality or sounds you wouldn't use, buy a good sample cd from a reputable company like at guitar center or sample your own. I bought like 3 sample cd's off ebay, and guess what? 1 of them was OK... the old saying is true, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Yeah I could agree with that.... but like i said I had some success with the kits. you just really have 2 know what 2 expect..... not ALL the sounds are GOOD sounds, but if u search good enuff, u may be able 2 grab a few from here, few from there, and get urself a few kits..... but hell, my boy bought all the ones I got, I just made a copy, I was impressed from the price, but the actual Company CD's would probably be more appealing, just more expensive....

I would say that the best thing to do is to sample "break beat" records.It's about like buying a sample CD but it's on vinyl meaning that you actually have to sample unlike some sample CD's that come in wav format already.That way you get the best of both worlds.I managed to build 4 really good programs using one break beat record.I got a few really good kick drums,snares,high hats,hand claps,video game and movie samples all on one record.Just check out your local record shop and ask them were there breaks are.
