If i am currently using the digi 001 and want to record all my instrumental tracks indivudually to my pc, what is the equipment called that i would need to add more audio ins to my pc. I currently have the digi 6 1/4" in and 2 XLR in, and want to add more 1/4" ins to my pc to record on pro tools. A tech said i would need an audio interface with how many ever ins i want on it, and it should work with pro tools, but i havnt a clue as to what it is called so i have no where to start looking. Please help thanks

Yes, you're correct. It's not as simple as just going to the store and picking out any old Audio I/O card.

Here's what I would do.
The 001 has 18 inputs, 8 of which you're already using, that leaves the stereo s/pdif inputs and 8 channels via adat. If any of your gear has s/pdif outputs route it to the s/pdif input on the 001. Now for the adat input you're going to have to get a mixer/interface with however many inputs and an adat output which you of course route to the adat input on the 001(I use the Event EZBus for this, I'm sure there are plenty of other options out there). With this setup you can record 18 tracks simultaneously.

Im fairly certain there are ADAT + SPDIF to analog converters out there...just get one that can convert 8 - 1/4" plugs into ADAT and bridge it into your Digi 001...you will now have 16 channels of analog input as well as spdif....for a possibly cheaper solution you could also just get some type of DAT multitracker recorder that has a analog to digital converter with ADAT option and just plug your analog inputs into that and again bridge to your Digi 001 with ADAT....i have a similar I/O to the Digi 001, I use an RME multiface for my laptop....i used to get the 18 channels using a tascam DM 24 mixer......so you may want to also check out that option as well....anyway hope this helps...

Behringer ADA8000 is the cheapest solution. If you want the best convertors, go for Apogee ( http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/ )
There are off course plenty of alternatives.. ( Alesis, RME, etc )

That is what I use, just run the 1/4" inputs on the front and run the ADAT opticals from the back, done deal.
