Going from 1/8 to 1/4 question

yo man i was wonderin if i go from my computer's 1/8 inch out to my monitors(active) 1/4 outlets, will it be loud enough? Im sure i'll be able to hear something if I play the music loud but i just want to know if u think the signal will be too weak? Or will the amp in the monitor make it just fine? remember i have to split the 1/8 into two wires, one for each speaker, so that already makes it weaker.

i havent got the monitors yet so i cant test it myself.

What they are saying is you are not losing any level because the internal electronics on your sound card are using 2 separate amps. one for the left and one for the right. So you are not splitting the signal. It already is split. You need to go to Radio Shack or someplace similar and buy a 1/8 stereo jack to two 1/4 mono jacks adapter. There are basically 2 kinds of signals. Low level (guitar, phono, microphone etc.) and high level (stereo's, mixer, keyboards etc.) You have a line level signal from the output on your sound card and this is what your monitors want. Make sure you are looking at active monitors and not passive monitors. If they are passive you will also need an amplifier between the sound card and the monitor's.

computer headphone jacks usually sound like ass due to non-so-hi-end-components and its sandwiched in a box with much noise from the harddrive spinning and other components inside.....

use a soundcard output if possible, you should hear a big difference.

it will technically work fine, but be very careful using it for monitoring purposes as it will be flavored.
