mwalker: With the vst-to-rtas wrapper you can run vsts in protools too... Most RTAS plugins suffer from ridiculous pricing though.

But the question here was logic, didn't mean to stray off topic.

i still say get cubase se ($99). the threads talks about have the mpc and learning 5 different things, had pro-tool for a week and did not use it yet. so, what i see is a newbee who is not sure what is going on. so, if i was he or she i would continue learning mpc and purchase cubase se. there is a steep learning curve with logic. he or she should keep it simple so they do not bite off more than they can chew.

about the vst wrappers:

wrappers are band-aid

use extra cpu (could cut back use of audio tracks and/or efx(s))

vst are sometime not stable (what happens with unstable vst with a wrapper)

the bottom line with pro-tools is that it is the industry standard, but to have a true pro-tools system you would have to aleast invest $6000 to $7000. with the mbox pro-tools($450) setup what can you do that cubase se($99) and lets say maudio mobilepre($132) soundcard cant do? answer nothing.

this has been my point all along, understanding what you want to do. i want to put some of my beats on to cd and what is needed.

sequencer - mpc/cubase/logic/sonar (plus/minus of all versions/price/upgrades)

audio app - cubase/logic/sonar/pro-tools (plus/minus of all versions/price/upgrades)

soundcard - 16 bit, 24 bit (large audio files), 32 bit (even larger audio files)

and for less than $250 (cubase se and maudio mobilepre) and download some free vst efx you are set. period.

it sounds impressive to say i have this and that but as we all know the bottom line is the end product. period.

Anyone with some talent a drum stick and bucket can make beats - EFX or no EFX -

Cubase - Logic - Pro-Tools all do the same thing...where do you want to start and where do you want to end is a question only you as a person can answer for yourself - advice helps but when your on-line trying to figure out do I spend this here or spend that there...whatever you decide is going to show up one day in the mail and your going to get busy.

If you have the talent you can take anything you have from CUbase to Pro-Tools to Fruity Loops and write a jam effects or no effects


All these programs do the same thing - it's up to you to figure out how you fit into there mold

But I would get Logic

great responce!!! my question is why use pro-tools, cubase, logic, fruity loop etc if you are not going to apply efx(s)? what is you definition of mixing a track and/or producing a track. i may be wrong but most producer like adding reverb to thier snares and hihats and compression to the bass drum.

again what do we want to do?

1. just make beats
2. make beats record them dry
3. make beats add efx(s)
or
4. make a finish product (cd quality recording)

if your answer is 1, 2, or 3 just get a shareware program download use it.

It doesnt matter what you have but what you can do with it. If you cant do it with pro tools than forget about it. pro tools will get it done. get creative. what is wrong with pro tools midi capabilities? They are off the hook. anyway like I said, dont waste your money. If you dont even know what you have why would you want something else? the attitude of, oh I need this to make a sick beat is a sickness, get over that, its not what equpment you have, its how creative you get with it. hits were made in the 80's with things that some people would call primitive today. get well soon.
