How do you determine the tempo of a sample in soundforge.

If you can't do it soundforge what software can do it.

ACID tells you the BPM of sample loops using beatmapper

I thought in acid the file has to be certain length to use beat mapper. I'm trying to find the tempo of a 4 bar sample.

find the time (in seconds) of 4bars, then do this:

(60*4)/TIME = tempo

effekt can you give me an example so i can understand that better

In Soundforge

SPECIAL

EDIT TEMPO

then set the number of beats in 'Selection length in Beats'

Click in the box below and the tempo automatically is calculated.

(Moved to Studio Environments)

so in the "selection beats in beats" box i would put in 16 beats for a 4 bar sample. Right?If not be clear I don't understand exactly.

You're right it does have to be long to beatmap, for a 4 bar loop you can click on the filename in your browser window at the bottom and it should tell you the source tempo of the sample at the very bottom of the screen.

or you can do it the afforementioned wayin SF.

OK, this is a realy simple way of calculating the tempo:

The formula is : (60*4*numberOfBars)/TIME = tempo

so lets say you have a 4 bar loop and it is 10seconds long.
You do: (60*4*4)/10 = tempo => 96bpm
