making everything stereo

ill probably need to provide yall wit more info then what im about to give u, but i wanna know how to make my stuff come out stereo instead of mono.

I even use two plugs from my mpc stereo out (L/R) going into my mixer. i put the left plug in channel 1 and the right plug in channel 2 and panned the left all the way left and the right all the way right. i also have 2 plugs coming from the main output on my mixer (L/R) going into my 488 (Tascam). again, the left main out going to track 1 and the right main out going to track 2 (on tascam). both are panned left and right.

Still everything comes out mono. im not sure what im doing wrong or if im doing the whole thing wrong. if anybody could explain how their setup is or how i should do it that would be tight.

From your description of how you have everything set up you should be getting a stereo representation of what you're recording. Keep in mind that if all your samples are mono and you don't pan them in the MPC mixer you will end up with what sounds like a mono recording.

Try this, record a simple drum sequence with the hi hat panned hard left, snare panned hard right and the kick right in the middle in the MPC mixer screen. Record this to the tascam, it should be evident whether or not your getting a stereo recording. If you're not then the problem is somewhere in the signal chain.

Also, why are you runing the MPC through a mixer before running it into the 488, why not just go straight into the 488?

im runnin the mpc to my mixer cause the 488 eq only has low and high. no mids. but i figured since my mixer has all three I could use that before going into the 488. i shouldnt do it that way?

If you need the mid, go ahead and use it. But the longer the signalpath, the more noise you'll introduce.

THATS what the problem is!!!!! thanks mayne. damn i get some ugly noise sometimes. but i remember readin that somewhere. . .
