im lost!!!

i just recievedmy rnc compressor in the mail. im not to good with hoookin shit up. but here is my setup and maybe u guys can help me. i have a turntable hooked up to a preamp then hooked up to a in in my mixer. then i have mpc hooked up to a in. and my asr is hooked up to my monitors. than when i need to record i just slap the headphones and change the wires so that my outs on the asr are going right in the soundcard. now how should i fit the compressor into all of this. thanx alot. peace

If I understood your post correctly you have your MPC and TT/Preamp hooked up to your mixer but you have your ASR kooked up to your monitors, correct? I'm a little confused as to why you have it setup like this(I'm guessin' it's been workin' fine for you though) but I would hook every thing up like this:

MPC, TT/Preamp, ASR into the mixer> tape outs on the mixer to your soundcard> soundcard outs to the tape returns on your mixer>monitor outs on your mixer to the monitors. If you plan on runnin' everything through the RNC you can just strap it across the tape outs before the signal goes to the soundcard but I recommend hooking it up to an aux channel though. It just occured to me that I have no clue what kind of mixer you have, post back with the exact model and I can be of more help.

Compressors were not meant to be used on aux channels. They should be used on insert channels.

I figured he was probably using a mixer without inserts though, that's why I asked what kind of mixer he had before finishing my suggestion. ddot is correct though, this would be awkward to setup. The RNC is really meant as a "front end" so if you don't mind a little re-patching everytime you want to run something through the RNC( I'm guessing you don't want to run everything through it all the time) then you can do just that. If you do want to run everything through the RNC (you can always bring the fader down on channels you don't want compressed and mute tracks in the MPC while tracking) then you can just put the RNC in between the tape outs and the inputs on your souncard( you'll need a rca to 1/4 cable or adapter). As ddot said inserts would be much easier to deal with cuz then you would just have to patch the RNC in on whatever channel you wanted to compress but unless I'm mistaken the Behringer 1604 doesn't have insert channels.

I can't get my RNC hooked up with my set-up either and need help. I have an MPC 1000, XV5050 module, and microkorg all hooked into my Yamaha MG 12/4 mixer on seperate channels. I have read all the manuals very carefully, but the Yamaha one barely brushes over anything. The cat in the music store gave me a two cables that have one 1/4" on one end and splits into a tip and ring. WTF! The RNC says "Tip=In, Ring =Out" on the left and rights. I would hate to have to change the RNC around everytime I want to compress something...i have insert channels on my mixer, but don't know how to control which channels go through it.

I've also got extra 1/4" cables, can I just run the outs of my equipment in to the ins of the RNC, then into the mixer?

so u can hear the trurnables? Turntables need a way to raise the sig to line level. Pre amp is how it happens. Some people buy DJ mixers ahnd the preamp is in them.
