If you going the Vestax route (now im pro Vestax just so ya know 
) dont get the older PDX models. Those are plagued with table wobble, go for the PRO MKII (less chance of wobble).
Numark (cant really recommend anything here)
Stanton ( STR-80?) i think they are called are good for scratching (if you eventually want to learn that)
Technics (M3D on up to the 1210 M5G's) are good for listening and scratching (i use to own a M3D and an M5G)
those should help you out
for the Technics M3D dont pay more than 150 -250
for Mixers there are a number of good mixers
Vestax PMC Pro's are great the PMC PRO 06 is a slimline that can be had for 150 or less
Ecler Nuo 2 is also a slim line thats about 300 or less
Rane TTM56 (sorta the undisputed king of scratch mixers BUT that wont be for long when the innofader drops)
the innofader is a magnetic fader that is compatibale with a number of mixers (Vestax PMC Pro's are compatible), i even bought a PMC Pro 05 MK III for 200$ just so i could drop an innofader in it.
Ecler HAX series has magnetic faders as do the Rane TTM56 but they are quite expensive 500+
there are a shit ton other mixers but im only familar with scratch mixers

NOW IF I WERE YOU (which im not) this is what i would get
Vestax PDX 2300 MKII Pro (around 300 used) or Vestax PDX 2000 MK II Pro (around 300 most likely less used)
These two decks have the special tonearm thats great for scratching (when your ready or want to scratch of course)
Mixer - Vestax PMC 05 Pro III or II or Vestax PMC 06 Pro
if your not going the scratching route then
Technics 1200 M3D and a mixer in the 200$ range.
